Lower Colorado River Authority Uses Air2 Helicopters for Transmission Line Maintenance

Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) located in west Texas hired Air2, LLC to maintain their transmission lines in west Texas. The project included the installation of vibration dampers on the 500kV transmission lines.

As stated by LCRA, if bucket trucks were to be used, it would take days and day to get the job done. Even if bucket trucks took 20 minutes per damper installation (compared to Air2 – 2 minutes per damper), the bucket trucks would need to drive through farmland. Obtaining access to the farmland, upsetting the animals and set up and takedown, would be a very slow process.

Air2, LLC used the long-line process to carry the lineman to the structures. Safe work procedures were developed to install the new dampers.
